Pop Punk High is a new musical by Ben Lapidus and Anderson Cook that parodies and celebrates the pop punk bands of the 2000’s and all the misguided angst they inspired.

Pop Punk High is a place where everyone is pop punk, it’s always 2006, and there’s never been anything cooler than skating, shredding, and flipping off your lame-ass parents. Derek, a young poser, wants nothing more than to become king of Pop Punk High and win Amanda Bunkface’s love. It seems all but impossible for a loser like Derek, but when he finds a bong in his attic containing the ghost/genie of Avril Lavigne (who's trying to find the record exec that murdered her), his wildest dreams may be possible after all.

Pop Punk High features a score reminiscent of blink-182Sum 41, and New Found Glory. The music is composed by Ben Lapidus, frontman of alternative band Ambler and skate-punk band Kill Your Friends.

The show blends pop punk authenticity with a book full of inventive, obscene humor from Anderson Cook, the creator of The Disembodied Hand That Fisted Everyone to Death – the Musical!, the low-budget smash hit that played various theaters in NYC for over a year.

"The show pulses with an energy that pulls you out of your seat. The acting and singing is uniformly superb, and the talent of the cast drives the story forward and keeps you engaged from start to finish... keep your eye on this creative team. Remember that we all could have bought $30 tickets to see Hamilton at the Public Theater back in 2015. And the $15 ticket you buy to see Pop Punk High today could end up being a great 'I knew them back when' story." – New York Theatre Review

What Cook and his crew have created here is explosively good… I left this show and immediately wanted to watch it again. If you get the chance, you absolutely must see it.”

Thomas Burns Scully for Popdust

"The music is on point and reminiscent of Green Day, Simple Plan, and Fall Out Boy... it is hilarious, fast-paced, and very affordable."

– Ludus NYC

"Brings you back to those mid-aughts days in a funny and waaay too relatable way... it doesn’t rely on big-budget, amazing effects and sets or makeup but instead on a cast which draws the audience into a lighthearted return to angsty and awkward, but much better, days."
